The Children's Code or Age Appropriate Design Code (AADC) aims to keep children safe online. It puts children in control of their personal data, making the internet a safer place for them to learn, play, and explore. The Children's Code is a statutory code of practice that describes what you must do to comply with UK GDPR if your online services are likely to be accessed by children. If you aren't fulfilling the requirements of Age Appropriate Design, you aren't complying to GDPR.

HOW DOES IT AFFECT ME?

Following the 15 standards in the Age Appropriate Design Code is key to demonstrating compliance with the law. It’s vital that you comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). Serious breaches could result in severe consequences, including fines of up to 4% of your annual worldwide turnover.

WHY ACT NOW?
ICO enforcement action started on 2nd September 2021. The ICO are taking a supervisory, proactive approach to businesses they consider to be high risk. Our certification criteria is UK GDPR approved so the ICO will register that you’ve been certified as compliant by us.
